Ruth Simmons Officially Named the 8th President of Prairie View A&M University
The Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System unanimously voted Monday to name Dr. Ruth J. Simmons, a nationally recognized leader in higher education, as the 8th president of Prairie View A&M University. Simmons will assume the presidency of Texas’ second oldest public institution becoming the first woman to lead the university in its 140-year history.

Members of the Texas Southern University Board of Regents have unanimously appointed Mary Evans Sias, Ph.D. to assume the role of interim president. Dr. Sias, a member of the TSU Board of Regents and appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in October 2020, has resigned from her board role during this interim period. The role will become effective June 30th. The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Dakota Doman, will remain in place until the beginning of the interim presidency term.

Governor Abbott Names Chair And Appoints Five To Red River Boundary Commission
Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed William “Bill” Douglass and appointed Reginald B. “Reggie” Smith, Jr., David Bristol, Anthony Ricciardelli, and William “Willie” Steele to the Red River Boundary Commission for terms at the pleasure of the governor. Additionally, the Governor named Reginald B. “Reggie” Smith, Jr. chair of the commission. The Red River Boundary Commission is established to oversee the redrawing of the boundary between Texas and the State of Oklahoma in the Texoma area. The Commission shall confer and act jointly with representatives appointed on behalf of the State of Oklahoma.

'Flava in Ya Ear' hip-hop star Craig Mack, dies at 46
Former New York rapper Craig Mack, best known for his 90s smash hit single “Flava In Ya Ear,” died at age 46, on March 13, 2018. Mack died of heart failure at a hospital near his Walterboro, S.C. home, according to his producer.
