Houston Grand Opera, in partnership with Houston First, invites community members to tour a series of labyrinths created by local artist Reginald Adams during the opening nights of upcoming productions The Wreckers, El Milagro del Recuerdo, Werther, and Salome. Local poets, spoken word artists, and musicians will contribute to the experience by curating a multisensory atmosphere of deep reflection, meditation, and discovery for all on Fish Plaza outside Wortham Theater Center. The installations invite participants to connect not only with the operas, but also with their own inner spirits.

Representatives from Wells Fargo and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) joined Houston, Texas, Mayor Sylvester Turner and other state and local dignitaries at the grand opening of New Hope Housing Avenue J (Avenue J) apartments. The $35-million, 100-unit, affordable apartment community in Houston’s historic Second Ward received a $750,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) subsidy from Wells Fargo and FHLB Dallas.

“I am honored to welcome Secretary Becerra to Houston and accompany him on a tour of MD Anderson, a premier institution for cancer care and research of international renown. Since 1944, MD Anderson has welcomed nearly 1.8 million people for cancer care and in 2021 alone cared for over 174,000 patients,” Congressman Al Green stated. “One of MD Anderson’s most ambitious cancer detection, prevention, and treatment initiatives is the Moon Shots Program launched in 2012. Inspired by President Kennedy’s promise 60 years ago to put a man on the moon, the goal of this program is to drastically reduce cancer mortality and suffering in 13 cancer types, which will form the basis for future treatment of all cancer types.”

Houston Public Works announces the winners of the “Imagine a Day Without Water” TikTok Contest. Imagine a Day Without Water is a national day of education and advocacy about the value of water. Dozens of entries were received to highlight the importance and value of water in Houston. Applicants had to follow the City of Houston TikTok channel @cityofhouston, and live in the Greater Houston Area. Each participant’s TikTok entry must also use the hashtag #ValueWaterHouston.

The Houston Texans recently joined Comcast Texas to make a surprise announcement – investing a total of $25,000 in the United Way of Greater Houston’s 211 HELPLINE, the Chinese Community Center, MECA and U.S. Dream Academy – Hartsfield Elementary.
