Visitors to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, have only a few more weeks to view two groundbreaking exhibitions, Virtual Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher from the Michael S. Sachs Collection and Leandro Erlich: Seeing is Not Believing before the exhibitions close on Monday, September 5, 2022. BARC to 'Clear the Shelters' with Extended Hours, Waived Adoption Fees
BARC, the City of Houston's Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 2022 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign, through August 31, 2022. As part of this year's campaign, BARC's Adoption Center will be open for additional hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022. All pet adoption fees will also be completely waived for the final weekend on August 27 and 28, 2022.
HISD Expands Participation in Verizon Innovative Learning
The partnership will bring free tech education to more local Title I schools
On Thursday, August 18, eight HISD middle schools will kick off their participation in Verizon Innovative Learning, Verizon’s award-winning education initiative, which addresses barriers to digital inclusion and helps drive equity within education for some of the most vulnerable populations across the country. In partnership with Digital Promise, the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program provides free technology devices, internet access and innovative STEM learning programs to teachers and students to help give under-resourced students the technology, education, and opportunity they deserve. Being part of the program will keep students connected, helping to facilitate learning wherever it is taking place.

The blood drive will take place on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, at The Health Museum – located at 1515 Hermann Drive, Houston, Texas 77004. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Houston native serves aboard Navy warship
A native of Houston, Texas, is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the guided-missile cruiser, USS Cowpens. Fireman Albert Abrego, a 2020 North Shore Senior High School graduate, joined the Navy two years ago.
