Texans Honor Carlos Valdez, Jr. Through NFL Hispanic Heritage Awards

The Houston Texans have selected Carlos Valdez, Jr., Owner and CEO of Las Palapas Hausman and longtime volunteer and former board chair for the YMCA of Greater Houston, as the recipient of the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award. The NFL and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) have partnered for the eighth annual NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Awards during the 2018 celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Houston Community College Creates Community Partnership to Address Protective Gear Shortages in Houston

Houston Community College (HCC) announced that San Jacinto College, University of Houston at Sugar Land, Fort Bend County Judge’s Office, TX/RX Labs, Alief ISD and Houston ISD have joined efforts to help address personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages for local area medical professionals and first responders in the fight against COVID-19. The collaborative effort – known as H-Force – will be a comprehensive community partnership platform bringing together members’ resources, technologies and expertise to address the Houston area’s growing needs amidst this global crisis.

The Houston Museum of African American Culture Presents El Franco Lee II: Mid-Career Survey

The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) is excited to present El Franco Lee II: Mid-Career Survey, curated by HMAAC’s Chief Curator Christopher Blay. This exhibition is the first solo museum exhibition of the Houston-based artist El Franco Lee II’s work. As I walked down the aisles of the grocery store this afternoon, I could see a difference in the normal attire of the customers. I had become accustomed to seeing people aka fans wearing Houston Astros World Championships shirts up and down aisles. But today my eyes had to do some adjusting to something I had not seen in a while. It had me dazed and confused for a second as the stream of orange and blue had more hues of red in it. Third Ward Consortium Receives Grant to install new synthetic sports turf surfaces at Jack Yates High School Athletic Field

A consortium of organizations, has received a field valued at $1,250,000 donated by the Houston Texans, Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation-NRG Park, and Hellas Construction, Inc., $250,000 from the NFL Grassroots Foundation Grant, and a $200,000 NFL Foundation Matching Grant through the Houston Texans to install a new synthetic sports turf surface at Jack Yates High School Athletic Field. Rodney Ellis, Harris County Commissioner Precinct One, was instrumental in the designation of Yates as the recipient of the field.
