According to Lincoln Financial Group Study, 53 Percent Expect Significant Financial Improvements Within The Next Five Years, but Debt Remains a Top Concern

Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE:LNC) announced today that its Financial Focus research study shows African Americans are more optimistic about their financial futures than any other race/ethnicity with 53 percent expecting significant personal financial improvements within the next five years—and despite a pay gap between white and black families, according to the Census Bureau’s 2017 Current Population Survey. Looking ahead just to 2018, African Americans are more optimistic than Caucasian Americans and Asian Americans, and are equally optimistic as Latino Americans: 34 percent of African Americans project their financial situation will get much better in 2018.

The Harvard Crimson, Harvard College’s daily newspaper, recently reported that Kristine E. Guillaume, Class of 2020, was elected to lead the 146th Guard as the paper’s President. Guillaume is the first black woman to serve as President of The Crimson in its 145-year history.

Amoako Boafa: Soul of Black Folks

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) is excited to announce Amoako Boafo: Soul of Black Folks, the debut museum solo exhibition for Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo (b. 1984), one of the most influential artistic voices of his generation. Working primarily in figuration, Boafo is known for his vibrant use of color and thick improvisational gestures, created by his finger-painting technique emphasizing the contours and luminous skin tone of the body of his subjects. The show presents over thirty works created between 2016–2022, including a site-specific wall painting made specifically for CAMH. The subjects featured in Boafo’s paintings represent the nuance and complexities of Black life globally.

A 42-year-old Latino identified as David Gonzales Reyes is clinging to life and remains in a coma in intensive care in a Houston area hospital three weeks after suffering brain injuries during what witnesses say was an unprovoked assault outside a convenience store. The attack happened in broad daylight and was caught on surveillance video on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in Trinity, Texas. The community of 13,800 residents is located 100 miles north of Houston and is 87.7% white according to the 2021 update from the U.S. Census, with only 12% Latino. Reyes has been a longtime resident of the community where he works as a welder and in construction. Police say Reyes did not strike back at the attacker but still classified the incident as a “simple assault.”
