Join the Houston Chamber Choir on Feb. 3 for the ultimate pre-game experience, I Could Write a Book, an exquisite afternoon of jazz in the beautiful Ballroom at Bayou Place, featuring Kim Nazarian, one of the founding members of New York Voices. Located downtown in the heart of the Theater District, this trendy venue makes the perfect setting for listening to jazz favorites with Nazarian and the professional men and women singers who make up the Houston Chamber Choir. Fifth Ward is portrayed as more than just a geographic location; the residents are the most critical parts of the community; when these people move away or travel from their homes, the stories and experiences always keep the best interests of the physical place alive. Francis used colored pencils, decorative papers, foil, and found objects to collage his portraits.

Advocates Push to Pardon 110 Black Soldiers Guilty in 1917 Houston Riots

The South Texas College of Law Houston, the local NAACP chapter, advocates and supporters plan to push for the pardon of 110 Black soldiers convicted of mutiny and rioting at Camp Logan in 1917, the Houston Chronicle reported. The soldiers were hanged, executed or sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty in the 1917 riots, which occurred after months of racial tensions toward the all-Black Third Battalion of the United States Army’s 24th Infantry Regiment.
