Rice's Kinder Institute to release findings from 36th Kinder Houston Area Survey

Stephen Klineberg, founding director of Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research and a sociology professor in Rice’s School of Social Sciences, will release findings from the 2017 Kinder Houston Area Survey at a downtown luncheon May 1. The 36th annual study covers such topics as Houstonians’ current economic outlooks and perspectives on the region’s demographic transformations.

The Grammy® Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Robert Simpson, announces the appointment of Brian Miller to the new position of Executive Director of the renowned choral group. UHD Prepare Teachers to Lead as Principals in New Master of Educational Leadership Program

For more than three decades, the University of Houston-Downtown’s (UHD) College of Public Service (CPS) has been training teachers with stunning results: More than 2,000 teachers trained by UHD have been placed in area school districts. In addition, UHD’s undergraduate teacher-preparation program was among just 23 percent of programs nationwide recently awarded an “A” by the National Council on Teacher Quality for teaching the science of reading.

Governor Abbott Appoints Ten to Texas Industrialized Building Code Council

Governor Greg Abbott yesterday appointed Stephen Shang and Roberto Lay-Su and reappointed Roland Brown, Scott McDonald, and Douglas Robinson to the Industrialized Building Code Council for terms set to expire on February 1, 2019. Additionally, he appointed Marcela Rhoads, Suzanne Arnold, and Brian Bailey and reappointed Randall Childers and W.F. “Dubb” Smith for terms set to expire on February 1, 2020. The council oversees the state program regulating industrialized housing and buildings.

25th Annual MFA - 5A Citywide Exhibition

Winners On Display At T.S.U.'s University Museum, Through Aug 30th

This year the African American Art Advisory Association (5A) of the Museum of Fine Art Houston celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Citywide African American Artists Exhibition. The Exhibit will be hosted at different venues and spaces across the city, including the University Museum at Texas Southern University and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts. The Houston Citywide African American Artists Exhibition is open to all artists of the African diaspora in the greater Houston area. It is sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through 5A (the African American Art Advisory Association at the MFAH) and the University Museum at Texas Southern University.

The University of Houston’s College of Liberal and Social Sciences, the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, HEB Corporation and the City of Houston have joined forces to present the first ever all black classical music Festival in Houston. The Colour of Music Festival Petit’ runs September 12-16, 2018. Scores of Classical Conductors, Composers, Musicians and Operatic Singers will travel from France, Great Britain, Columbia, Russia and cities across the United States to participate in this Historic event.
