What to Watch in 2021

HPD Welcomes Area Students During Police Week
From 9:45 a.m. to Noon TOMORROW (Monday, May 15), members of the Houston Police Department's Training Division will open the doors to the Houston Police Academy L. D. Texas Southern University receives $5.1 million grant for cancer research

Texas Southern University (TSU) scholars will help in the fight against cancer via a recently announced $5.1 million academic research grant from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The five-year grant is a Core Facility Support award, which makes cutting-edge technology available for capital investment and technical expertise. It is TSU’s first-ever CPRIT award, and it is one of the largest publicly-funded grants the university has received in its 90-year history.

Houston Ballet Cancels the Remainder of Its 2019-2020 Season
Houston Ballet announces its cancellation of the rest of its 2019-2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Performances effected include the rescheduled dates for Forged in Houston (May 21-31), Romeo & Juliet (June 4-14) and From Houston to the World, which was in the works to be rescheduled later in the season. Additionally, its community performances at Miller Outdoor Theater and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and much-anticipated tour to Spain this summer have also been canceled.

The NAACP has announced it will feature a Diversity Career Fair as part of the 110th NAACP National Convention in Detroit, Michigan July 20-24 at Cobo Center. The NAACP Diversity Career Fair will be held on July 23 from 12pm – 6pm and will be open to NAACP delegates as well as the entire community.
