CHAT unveils “Together We Play” & “All Hands In” murals on July 22

Today, Culture of Health Advancing Together (CHAT) held a special celebration and ribbon cutting event to unveil the new Gulfton-area murals titled “Together We Play” and “All Hands In.” Event speakers included Council Member Edward Pollard, CHAT Executive Director Dr. Aisha Siddiqui, and Amer Kumar, Vice President of Ashford Communities, as well as artists Amy Malkan and Thaddaeus Arvie. All community members were invited to join this event, held at the sports courtyard of Ashford Crescent Oaks Apartments (6711 Hornwood, Houston, TX 77074).

Houston Public Library is a 'Fine Free' System for Cardholders

With the support of Mayor Sylvester Turner and approval by Houston City Council, Houston Public Library (HPL) will no longer charge late fines on overdue books and other borrowed items. This change is effective January 11, 2023. By eliminating late fines, HPL joins other public library systems across North America in lowering financial barriers to library access and creating more equitable services for all users.

City of Houston and Harris County Statements on EPA Order for Union Pacific Contamination Cleanup

The City of Houston and Harris County are pleased to report that the U.S Environmental Protection Agency has issued an order to Union Pacific Railroad providing that EPA will oversee the offsite investigative and cleanup process related to the creosote contamination in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens. This order is the result of efforts that have been and continue to be pushed forward by the City of Houston, Harris County, and the Bayou City Initiative in their negotiations with Union Pacific.

Houston Texans Celebrate NFL 100 in the Annual Homecoming Game Presented By Palais Royal

The Houston Texans will welcome former Texans players on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they take on the Oakland Raiders in the annual Homecoming Game presented by Palais Royal. This game will conclude the Texans’ Fantennial Weekend in honor of celebrating 100 years of the NFL. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium and will be broadcasted on CBS.

HISD Statement On Safety Protocols

Fashion enthusiasts are invited to view the fashion exhibit, Timeless Elegance: Homage to Oscar de la Renta, which showcases winning creations from Fashion Fusion, an annual competition presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) and Houston Community College (HCC), Fashion and Costume Design Department. The panel discussion, which will be moderated by HCC’s Fashion Design Professor Alex Chapman, will be held at Central Library 1st Floor Art Gallery on Sunday, August 19 at 2 PM. Panelists will include special guest, Houston designer David Peck, as well as some of the designers highlighted in the exhibit: Jing Cao, Inge Duran, David Julian Valdez, Shanda Phillips, Teresa Rangel, Ebonie Sophus, and Maria Hammond.
