EPA Awards over $1.3 million to Texas Universities to Research Potential Environmental Impacts in Waste Streams
Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced approximately $1.3 million to fund research by two academic institutions in Texas. Texas A&M AgriLife and Texas Tech University will work to expand the understanding of the environmental risks posed by per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in waste streams. They will also work to identify practical approaches to manage the potential impacts as PFAS enters the environment.

Change Happens is hosting an open house to present its State of Third Ward address. In collaboration with urban planning specialist Jason T. Hyman, the organization is bringing together members of the Third Ward, real estate, private, public and nonprofit communities for a collaborative discussion. The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) and Deborah Colton Gallery are pleased to present Riding the Tiger: The Art of Bert Long, Jr., an exhibition of the late Houston’s artist work October 24-November 9, 2019. The museum, which dedicated its Bert Long, Jr. Gallery to show emerging local artists five years ago, and the Gallery, which represents the Bert Long, Jr. Estate, began planning this exhibition over a year ago.

Hispanic Heritage Month: A Time For Reflection
I am often excited when Hispanic Heritage Month comes around. My social media fun facts regarding the contributions of the Hispanic/Latinx communities tend to be a little overboard, but hey, somebody has to tell it since our public education history books don’t really do our people any justice. Correct me if I’m wrong here, but I believe we get a chapter on civil rights and farm labor leaders Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, and let’s not forget Texas History’s rendition of Santa Anna and the Alamo.
