Houston Pays it Forward: Donated Supplies On the Way to Assist Hurricane Michael Recovery.

HOUSTON - Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Friday the Houston Pay it Forward Donation Drive has collected enough hurricane recovery supplies to fill more than two, 18-wheelers. The trucks are on their way to northern Florida and other areas devastated by Hurricane Michael to deliver cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, children and adult shoes and clothing, bottled water, diapers, and pet supplies.

Harvey Arts Recovery Fund Announces New Application Date for Second Round of Grants Supporting Houston Arts Community

On Thursday, February 15, the Harvey Arts Recovery Fund (HARF) will open up applications for their second round of grants geared towards Houston artists and art organizations in need of disaster assistance. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent news that HARF awarded more than $40,000 to local artists and arts, heritage and cultural organizations who suffered personal and professional losses due to Hurricane Harvey. The new application will close on March 1, 2018 and applicants will apply at www.harveyartsrecovery.org.

Houston Ballet Cancels the Remainder of Its 2019-2020 Season

Houston Ballet announces its cancellation of the rest of its 2019-2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Performances effected include the rescheduled dates for Forged in Houston (May 21-31), Romeo & Juliet (June 4-14) and From Houston to the World, which was in the works to be rescheduled later in the season. Today, the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity (Houston Equity Fund), along with the support of Mayor Sylvester Turner, announced a one-year Guaranteed Income pilot program in Houston in partnership with Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI). The pilot program will provide $375 per month, totaling $4,500 annually, to 110 program participants in need. The Houston Equity Fund will disperse monthly stipends to Houston’s most underserved and under-resourced individuals with the goal of progressing toward a more equitable and prosperous city.

HFD and Red Cross Recognized Nationally

The Houston Fire Department and the American Red Cross received national recognition for efforts to keep Houston residents safe. During a joint mass smoke alarm installation drive, HFD and the Red Cross were presented with certificates of congressional recognition for their continuing work to reduce home fires in high-risk areas.
