Sen. Miles Starts Session Making Major Legislative Impact
Boris Miles, with the winter sun piercing the Texas Capitol, was cheered on by half a dozen bus loads of supporters that traveled to Austin Tuesday, January 10th when he was sworn-in to succeed Rodney Ellis as Houston and south Texas' only African American State Senator. Miles raised his right hand to represent SD 13 in the upper chamber.
Old Growth Ventures Announces Victor Street Historic Shotgun Row House Rehabilitation Project in Freedmen’s Town Historic District
Old Growth Ventures LLC announces the Victor Street Historic Shotgun Row House Rehabilitation Project to save and rehab the last iconic shotgun house row in Houston’s Freedmen’s Town National Register Historic District. The Victor Street shotguns were recently acquired by Old Growth Ventures’ Historic Preservation Fund I, L.P. The historic rehab is expected to be completed by June, saving the last remaining iconic shotgun house row in Houston’s original African American community.

Additional Mission Modification for Mouth-Bar Requested
Council Member Dave Martin would like to make District E residents aware the Federal Emergency Management Administration's (FEMA) mission assignment modification to address partial removal of the mouth-bar has concluded. The mission assignment modification provided the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) authorization, acting at the direction of FEMA, to remove an additional 497,400 cubic yards of debris from the confluence of the San Jacinto River and Lake Houston, known locally as the "mouth-bar". Council Member Martin has never accepted the amount of debris included in the mission modification and continues to fight that number today.
