Disappointment: Texans Lose Last Game of the Season to the Colts

Every New Year I hear the same statement made by individuals who can’t wait for the clock to hit midnight on December 31st. “New Year, New Me” is what they love to scream as they drink their favorite adult beverage. Well, let’s hope that the Houston Texans organization has that same mantra going into next season. Houston ended its season by losing to the Indianapolis Colts 22 – 13 to finish the season with a 4 -12 record and be ranked last in the AFC South due to the two losses to the Colts.

Simeon Booker to Be Memorialized at Washington National Cathedral January 29

A memorial service for trailblazing civil rights journalist Simeon Booker will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018, his wife, Carol McCabe Booker, has announced. The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Booker, a journalistic icon, died Dec. 10 at the age of 99.

Governor Greg Abbott today appointed and swore in Jimmy Blacklock to the Texas Supreme Court following Justice Don Willett’s confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Blacklock has served as general counsel for Governor Abbott since 2015.

Today, I read one of the best written articles I’ve read all year in the Washington Post. It was about ex NFL player Larry Johnson and his struggles since retiring from football. The main thing I got from the article was something he said when he was talking about his daughter. I’m paraphrasing but it went, “When I found out I was having a daughter I knew God had a sense of humor. With all the bad things I’ve done to women he gave me a daughter in hopes that I raise her to never want to date a man like me.”

Mexico to Raise Minimum Wage...to $4.70 a Day

Nearly 25 million Mexicans are getting a pay raise. From $4.25 to $4.70 -- a day. Mexican government and business leaders agreed to raise the country's minimum wage starting on December 1 to 88.36 pesos from 80.04 pesos. The 10% raise is good news for 24.7 million Mexicans who work either one or two minimum wage jobs.
