Danielle Keys Bess, a Houston native and realtor with 20 years of experience in community activism and government relations, formally announced her candidacy today for Houston City Council At-Large Position 2.
Bess will kick off her 2023 City Council At-Large #2 campaign with a private birthday celebration and fundraising event at James Harden’s upscale Midtown restaurant, Thirteen, on Friday, January 20, 2023!
"I am thrilled to launch my campaign for Houston City Council At-Large #2 in promotion of 'Big' collaborations and 'Better' communities with the 'Bess' candidate,” said Bess. “Together, we will build stronger, more connected communities through meaningful partnerships and collaborations. This will be an exciting journey for positive change in our neighborhoods across the City of Houston."
As a life-long member of the Houston community, Bess is launching a “Big, Better, Bess” campaign that focuses on representing people of all backgrounds, race, age, gender, and socio-economic status within Houston’s diverse community at City Hall. The in-depth public and government affairs experience she brings will help her conduct the “Big” collaborations that are essential to building “Better” communities and providing the critical resources every Houstonian deserves in infrastructure, public safety, education, youth, senior and community initiatives, environmental enrichment, arts and entertainment, business opportunities, small business success, and transportation.
A native Houstonian and the daughter of a U.S. Navy Veteran and a Woman-Owned Small Business/Entrepreneur, who were both raised in the segregated south, the characteristics of strength, service, leadership and hard work were instilled in Bess at a young age. The spiritual foundation her parents taught their children and their sacrifice for family are the centerpiece of her core values for service that reigns supreme in her life choices.
Bess has worked with prominent clientele at all levels of government including Obama for America (Houston), Sheila Jackson Lee for Congress Campaign (14 years), Annise Parker for Mayor, and Ron Kirk for Senate Campaign. She has a proven track record of excellence in public and government affairs, conflict resolution, strategic communications, fundraising, project management and community outreach initiatives and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Texas at Arlington with Cum Laude honors, and an Executive MBA from Texas Women’s University.
The 15-year licensed Texas Real Estate Professional has also served as a project manager and sales consultant for affordable housing developments that have placed over 100 families in newly constructed single-family properties, with a 0% foreclosure rating. She has assisted in the disaster recovery efforts that focused on the rebuilding and/or remodeling of the homes of many Senior citizens throughout Houston and has been an active part of a large number of community development projects, funded from both the private and public sector, that removed blight and created beautification concepts in spaces that were historically underserved.
