As the festive season fills the air with cheer, Houston offers a meaningful way to reflect on history and humanity. The Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH), a beacon of education and remembrance, is extending a special holiday invitation: free admission from December 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025 (excluding December 24, 25, and January 1, 2025). This generous opportunity invites families and individuals to explore one of the nation’s most significant Holocaust museums and discover the powerful lessons it shares.

A Legacy of Learning and Hope

Since opening its doors in 1996, the Holocaust Museum Houston has transformed the hearts and minds of visitors through its mission to combat hatred, prejudice, and apathy. Born from the vision of Siegi Izakson, a Holocaust survivor, the museum stands as a testament to resilience and the importance of preserving stories that must never fade. "This means the Holocaust story will not go away," Izakson declared during the museum’s dedication—words that remain central to its purpose today.

Following a $34 million expansion in 2019, the museum doubled in size, becoming a cultural cornerstone of Houston. As the fourth largest Holocaust museum in the United States, it houses innovative exhibits across 57,000 square feet, including permanent galleries, bilingual displays in English and Spanish, and interactive terminals. Visitors can also experience a 187-seat indoor theater, a 175-seat outdoor amphitheater, and a research library—all designed to inspire reflection and dialogue.

Upcoming Events You Won’t Want to Miss

In addition to its exhibits, HMH hosts thought-provoking and culturally rich programs. This holiday season, two events promise to captivate and connect visitors:

December 19, 2024: Chicanukah Party
Celebrate a unique blend of Latino-Jewish culture at this cross-cultural holiday event. Enjoy light bites, cocktails, and desserts while immersing yourself in the joyous fusion of traditions.

January 15, 2025: The Rescue Film – Concerto
A groundbreaking evening featuring a 60-minute documentary and live musical performance about Latin American rescues during the Holocaust. This compelling program highlights unsung heroes and their courageous actions.

Our Vision and Mission

HMH’s guiding vision seeks to foster a society that transforms ignorance into respect, remembrance into action, and prejudice into empathy. By honoring the memory of the six million Jews and other innocent victims of the Holocaust, the museum ensures the lessons of history continue to resonate across generations.

Plan Your Visit

Located at the Lester and Sue Smith Campus (5401 Caroline St., Houston, TX 77004), HMH is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Take advantage of this holiday gift to explore its exhibits, reflect on its message, and honor the spirit of resilience and human dignity.
