Houston, TX – In a powerful statement, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra pays tribute to the Black trailblazers and visionaries who have left an indelible mark on history. As the nation observes Black History Month, Secretary Becerra emphasizes the crucial role of Black leaders in health and human services and underscores the ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare for Black communities.

"At the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, we are dedicated to advancing equity in health and human services, striving for a future where Black communities experience neither neglect nor exclusion. Our focus includes expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare, destigmatizing mental health, diversifying clinical trials, enhancing treatment for sickle cell disease, and addressing the maternal health crisis that disproportionately affects Black mothers.
