Dr. John Fleming, Louisiana State Treasurer and former Congressman, has thrown his support behind the call for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In collaboration with House Speaker Mike Johnson and fellow Republicans, Dr. Fleming emphasizes the urgency of holding Mayorkas accountable for what he perceives as enabling the surge of illegal immigration and fostering a porous southern border.
“Mayorkas has been a willing tool of President Joe Biden in opening the southern border not only to millions of illegal immigrants but to the cartels and the drug lords. He has repeatedly lied to Congress, saying the border is secure when it is obviously the most porous in American history. Impeachment is warranted, and criminal charges would be even better,” Dr. Fleming asserted.
As the Louisiana State Treasurer and former Congressman from the 4th District, Dr. Fleming brings a unique perspective to the issue. He believes that the impeachment of Mayorkas will serve as a resounding message from Congress that the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants must be halted.
Commending House Speaker Johnson and Congressman Clay Higgins for their proactive efforts to enhance border security and initiate Mayorkas's impeachment, Dr. Fleming expressed disappointment in Senator Bill Cassidy's reported support for the White House's bipartisan border bill. He criticized the bill, suggesting it would perpetuate the massive flow of illegal immigrants, a sentiment echoed by former President Trump.
“Louisiana is already bearing a heavy burden caused by illegal immigration. At this very moment, Gov. Jeff Landry is asking each state agency to assess the impact being caused by the open border. We expect to have some reliable numbers soon, but you can be certain that the impact on public education, health, and hospitals in Louisiana is enormous. As your Treasurer, it is my job to help ensure that the federal government does not violate Louisiana’s best interests. Obviously, that is not the case on the border right now,” Fleming said.
Dr. Fleming concluded by asserting that no new legislation is required to resolve the border crisis. According to him, the key to ending the crisis lies in President Biden's enforcement of existing American laws.
