A Leap Forward for TSU Athletics

"One of the things that these new student-athletes are checking out is your facilities. So, when you don’t have top-notch facilities, a lot of times they’re not going to come to your school,” said Dr. Kevin Granger, TSU’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. “Now, when we have recruits visit our campus, we can bring them into facilities that will match up with anybody’s in the state.”

The new Strength and Conditioning Facility is a game-changer for TSU’s 16 intercollegiate athletic programs, as well as for the beloved Ocean of Soul Marching Band, TSU Cheer Team, TSU Sensations, and the university mascots. With top-tier weights, cutting-edge equipment, dedicated spaces for physical therapy, and ample offices for strength and conditioning staff, the facility breathes new life into the training regimen of TSU’s athletes.

More Than Just a GYM – It's a $3.5 Million Investment

This new facility, representing a $3.5 million investment, is twice the size of the old training space at H&PE Arena. It's not just a space upgrade—it’s an investment in the future of TSU Athletics. For years, the student-athletes had to make do with a smaller space, but now they have the room and resources to get bigger, faster, and stronger.

TSU baseball player Errick Lewis is particularly enthusiastic about the new facility. "Having this bigger space, like this bigger weight room, provides more motivation. We can definitely get stronger, bigger, faster here. I think it’s just going to be a great environment. The team’s going to love it. It’s going to be great,” Lewis shared with a confident smile, already envisioning the positive impact it will have on his and his teammates’ performance.

Facilities That Make a Difference

In a competitive college sports environment, facilities can make or break recruitment efforts. With this high-caliber, fully equipped training center, TSU has positioned itself as a top contender, attracting athletes who want the best. No longer will prospective athletes second-guess TSU's offerings—this cutting-edge facility stands toe-to-toe with the best in the state of Texas.

For TSU, this isn't just about having a beautiful new building—it's about transforming how athletes train and prepare for competition. It's about making a statement that TSU is serious about winning. And with this new space, that statement rings loud and clear.

Looking to the Future

As TSU Athletics steps into a new era with this facility, the future looks brighter than ever. The Ocean of Soul Marching Band will continue to dazzle fans, and TSU’s intercollegiate teams will take their training to the next level. With this impressive new asset, the entire TSU community has even more reasons to be proud.

Houston Style Magazine readers, the TSU Strength and Conditioning Facility is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of growth, potential, and the determination of TSU’s student-athletes to strive for excellence. And for Texas Southern University, the sky’s the limit.
