119th US Congress - CBCF Ceremonial Swearing-In Event

Before being sworn in as Congressman Sylvester Turner,  representing Houston’s 18th Congressional District, Rep. Turner held a Pre-Swearing-In Reception with his family, friends, business associates, and U.S. Representatives Cleaver and Doggett on January 3, 2025, at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. The affair, hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, was chaired by Representatives Clarke, Carter, McBath, Strickland, and Kamlager-Dove. Notable attendees included Nicole Austin-Hillery, President of the CBCF; Lance D. Mangum, Vice President of FedEx; Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Leader; and U.S. Representative Al Green. April Ryan served as the Mistress of Ceremonies, while New York Attorney General Letitia James administered the ceremonial oath of office.

Congressman Sylvester Turner Swearing-In Ceremony

Sylvester Turner is officially a member the U.S. Congress. Sworn in over the weekend, Turner received the oath of office from U.S. Federalris County Judge Lina Hildago, Rev. Ralph Douglas West, Earnest Judge Alfred H. Bennett to represent the 18th Congressional. The ceremony opened with prayer by Rev. Miguel Solorzano. Also joining emcee Linda Lorelle on program was U.S. Congressman Al Green, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, State Senator Molly Cook, and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Houston City Council Member Abbie Kamin. Earnest Pugh and Treva Jones provided entertainment. Top Teens from Humble, TX provided a moving tribute to Congressman Turner.
