The Periwinkle Foundation, through the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine (PAIM) program, presents the 2023 Making A Mark® art exhibit highlighting art and creative writing from children and teens at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center and featuring special guest artist Chelsea Clarke. The annual exhibition of more than 250 original pieces of individual art and creative writings by children touched by cancer and blood disorders is open through September at Texas Children’s Hospital in the Texas Medical Center in honor of Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

Red Cross Helps those affected by Hurricane Idalia
Hurricane Idalia made landfall yesterday morning in Taylor County, Florida and moved northeast through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. More than 100,000 people are without power from the storm. Currently, Idalia is bringing heavy rainfall and flash flooding to portions of the Carolinas. The Red Cross pre-positioned more than 400 disaster responders and truckloads of supplies to support the communities impacted. Two volunteers from The Texas Gulf Coast Region will be heading to Tallahassee today and tomorrow to help those in need.

Last Saturday, three African Americans were murdered by a 21-year-old white gunman at the Dollar General Store in Jacksonville, Florida, who then shot himself. The murderer was motivated, Jacksonville Sheriff T K Waters reported, by an “ideology of hate.” The shooting took place 15 months after 10 African Americans were murdered in another racially motivated shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo. Racial violence against Blacks has scarred America since the first slaves were forcibly shipped to America.
