Parks Soccer for Success Program Receives $175,000 U.S. Soccer Foundation Grant
1,500 Youth to Benefit from Youth Development Program
The U.S. Soccer Foundation (The Foundation) recently awarded a $175,000 grant to the Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Soccer for Success program. Funds will be used to provide field equipment and player kits to 1,500 participants and provide for instruction and implementation of the program. The program is available to youth ages 6 – 14 at 24 school and park sites and one Boys and Girls Club location.

$5 Million in ARPA Funding Invested in Arts and Cultural Organizations
Four months following approval by Houston City Council, 62 Houston Arts & Cultural organizations from across the City learned that their requested funding, up to $100,000, was approved. The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) was able to accomplish this effort in collaboration with Mid-America Arts Alliance, a trusted partner with a track record of helping the city efficiently distribute federal funds within the creative economy.

Leslie Alexander Puts Houston Rockets Franchise On the Market
“It’s been my great joy and honor to own the Houston Rockets for the past 24 years.” These were the words spoken by current Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander in a prepared statement as he announced his plans to sell the franchise. Alexander purchased the team in July 1993 for $85 million (currently valued at $1.65 billion) from Charlie Thomas. The sale of the team came right after the Rockets were coming off a grueling seven game series against the Seattle Supersonics and it came at a time when Houston was in desperate need of an identity.
