Important City of Houston Run-off Election Message Regarding District B

Due to a legal challenge, the City of Houston Council Member District B race will not appear on the December 14, 2019 Runoff ballot. This will not affect any of the other races or the election procedures the Harris County Clerk’s Office carries out.

Houston ISD Board of Education Trustee Jolanda Jones @JolandaJones @JonesJolanda speaks with Houston Style Magazine's Totally Randie @TotallyRandie about her love of tennis legend Zina Garrison and supporting Black children to the wonderful world of tennis and the arts. The Zina Garrison Tennis and Education Academy a non-profit organization, kicked off a competitive doubles tournament where two pairs “took it to the net” to see who would reign supreme. VIP tents were located at three locations helmed by Hell's Kitchen winners and contestants, Chef Michael Gabriel, Chef Rich Mancini and Chef Bev Lazo. A dinner and auction followed at the home of Philanthropists, Richard and Marty Finger. Author and Celebrity Chef, Jake Smollett, oversaw the EPL foodie experience. Wimbledon champion, Martina Navratilova and Zina Garrison entertained guests along with the Merlot Music of Houston Band featuring vocals from Liz Vaughn. A fierce auction bidding for a portrait by New Orleans' visual artist, filmmaker and activist, Brandan "BMike" Odums took place. There was also be a dedication of Zina Garrison's memorabilia from her 14-year professional career to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and Houston Texans partner for virtual graduation ceremony for senior Club members

The annual Houston Texans graduation ceremony for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) high school seniors went virtual this year to ensure the health and safety of all participants. The event takes place each May at the Houston Texans Teen Club in the Heights area, but the celebration on May 15 was all done via Zoom with 38 graduates and several Club directors joining in the video conference from their homes. Additionally, representatives from corporate partner Chevron and the Texans public relations staff joined in the conference, along with mascot TORO and members of the cheer team.

Local campus to host Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

February 20, 2017 – Brightwood College in Houston, in partnership with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Bank, will host a Spring Blood Drive Monday, March 6 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to join the campus in donating blood for Houston-area patients. Attendees can sign up in advance to donate blood at bit.ly/2khyDnY. Free health checks and campus tours will be available. Also, free t-shirts will be given to blood donors.

75 years after Jackie Robinson made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) will open the doors to a museum in his honor Tuesday, July 26. Located at 75 Varick Street in Lower Manhattan, the nearly 20,000 square-foot space will honor the life and legacy of an American hero who very publicly broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball and played an active and equally pioneering role in the Civil Rights Movement of the last century.
