Popular Houston restaurant The Breakfast Klub recognizes local students headed to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the Fall with celebratory event.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country are seeing a resurgence of interest and funding in the last few years. To support incoming freshmen students at HBCUs and to encourage them as they embark on a new chapter of their lives, The Breakfast Klub is hosting a free celebratory event, HBCU Sendoff. Approximately 150 students are expected to attend. Registration is required.

Civic Heart Community Services (Civic Heart) relocated its headquarters to One Emancipation Center at 3131 Emancipation Avenue in Houston’s Third Ward in June 2023. The 34-year-old organization, the largest black-founded non-profit organization in the Gulf coast region, formerly known as Change Happens!, recently announced its name change to Civic Heart Community Services.

44th Annual Jazz & Poetry Black History Celebration

A pair of Houston, Texas high school students are taking their respective schools to court over the right to protest during the pledge of allegiance. India Landry, a 17-year-old senior at Windfern High School, was expelled for sitting during the pledge. HISD District IV Candidate is Off to a Strong Start
The Matt Barnes for HISD Campaign announced that it raised $18,246 for its first campaign finance report for Houston Independent School District, District IV. This comes shortly after he threw his name in the race in mid- June. “I’m truly humbled by the amount of support I’ve received over the last few weeks,” said Barnes. “People are ready to see a change in our school system to ensure HISD students receive an excellent education and I’m ready to work in achieving that.”
