District Attorney Ogg requests more prosecutors to combat county-wide violent crime

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg appeared before county commissioners Tuesday to request additional funding for 82 new prosecutors in 2022. Ogg seeks additional staffing to address three “crime drivers” spiking Harris County’s homicide and criminal victimization rates: repeat violent offenders, domestic violence and gang crime.

Houston Equity Fund offering $8 million in grant funding for minority-owned small businesses

The online application portal for “Open for Business” grants worth up to $100,000 will be open from May 15-31.

Minority-owned small businesses and nonprofits in the Houston area can apply for up to $100,000 in grant funding later this month. A total of $8 million is available this year during the second phase of the "Open for Business" grant program, which is funded by Wells Fargo and administered by the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity. An online application portal for grant money is scheduled to be open from 5 a.m. May 15 through 11:59 p.m. May 31, with eligible businesses and nonprofits competing to receive awards ranging from $5,000-$100,000 apiece.

Residents who receive their First dose of the COVID-19 vaccine through HCPH will receive a $100 cash card

In an effort to improve vaccination rates and better protect the residents of Harris County from COVID-19, Harris County Public Health (HCPH) will provide $100 cash cards to residents receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at an HCPH vaccination site. In order to receive the $100 cash card, residents will have to sign a waiver prior to the vaccination and remain in the post-vaccination waiting area at an HCPH vaccination site for the 15-to-30 minutes recommended.
