Houston First, Mayor Turner Welcomes City Hospitality Members for Inaugural Meeting
Today Houston First Corporation (HFC), along with the Hotel Lodging Association of Greater Houston, brought the city’s hospitality industry together to host the first meeting in a series called “Destination Strategies & Insights.” These meetings will provide hoteliers and stakeholders a platform for open discussion to strengthen communication within the industry.
City Council Member Edward Pollard Free Masks Giveaway
City Council Member Edward Pollard and his staff, along with more than a dozen volunteers, gave away 12,000 disposable face masks on Tuesday, April 28, to Houston residents is support of the Harris County order requiring residents to wear masks or face coverings when outside the home. Hundreds of cars began lining up at 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the PlazAmericas Mall, located at 7500 Bellaire Blvd. to receive the masks. Council Member Pollard also used this opportunity to encourage residents to complete their Census forms.

Houston's Local Needs Assessment Open for Public Comment Until Nov.5
On October 5, 2018 the City of Houston published a Local Needs Assessment of residential impact from Hurricane Harvey for thirty days of public comment. The assessment shows that the City will need an additional $2 billion in federal resources to meet the most serious housing needs after Harvey. Other key findings of the assessment:

Nationally Recognized Artists to Unveil Newly Created "Turtle Soup" Mural in East End Houston
A 260-foot long concrete wall on JW Peavy Drive has been transformed by a colorful mural, “Turtle Soup,” recently commissioned by the Greater East End Management District (GEEMD). The mural was painted by world-renowned graffiti artist Pilot FX (Adam Socie) with UP Art Studio. The initial design was created by local East End artist, “Magnolia Grown” Jesse Rodriguez. The GEEMD's beautification efforts have received recognition from Keep Houston Beautiful as well as being awarded the 2017 Mayor’s Proud Partner Award.
