Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Play Host to Trailblazing Annual Women’s Conference & Business Expo

The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host its trailblazing Women’s Leadership Conference & Business Expo this Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Westin in Houston’s Galleria. Every year, the Women’s Leadership Conference & Business Expo highlights the accomplishments and achievements of both WOMEN and MEN across a diverse set of professions, industries, and backgrounds. The event – which sees an annual attendance of more than 500 – will seek to empower and equip attendees with the tools they need to be successful in their personal and professional lives.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the new 2018 Fatal Injury Data. In Texas, suicide is the 2nd leading overall cause of youth death and every .57 or < 1 day on an average a young person (ages 10-24) is lost to the silent epidemic of youth suicide.

Fort Bend County Expands COVID-19 Testing Sites to All Residents

County Judge KP George announced publicly on Tuesday that the Fort Bend County testing site for COVID-19 is now open to all residents -- whether or not they are experiencing symptoms from the novel coronavirus. The Judge announced the expansion in the open session of the Commissioner’s Court.

Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium Receives EPA Grant for Water Quality Monitoring, Education and Outreach in Bayou Lafourche

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium and Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) a grant in the amount of $695,614 to help monitor water quality before and after the repair of selected individual home sewage systems in the Bayou Lafourche Watershed of the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary System.

Harris County Receives Successful Status For Countywide Polling Place Program

Harris County has earned successful status from the Texas Secretary of State’s Office for the Countywide Polling Place Program following the May 4, 2019 Joint Election. Harris County is the largest county in the country to have executed a successful election where voters can cast a ballot at any polling location.

Harris County Now Largest in the Country to Implement Countywide Polling Place Program

Today, Texas Secretary of State David Whitley approved Harris County as one of six Texas counties with a population of more than 100,000 to participate in the Countywide Polling Place Program. With over 2 million registered voters, this makes Harris County the largest county in the country to implement this program. The state program allows eligible counties to establish non-precinct based Election Day Voting Centers.
