Visitors to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, have only a few more weeks to view two groundbreaking exhibitions, Virtual Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher from the Michael S. Sachs Collection and Leandro Erlich: Seeing is Not Believing before the exhibitions close on Monday, September 5, 2022. The Museum will be open on the Labor Day holiday Monday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are available at www.mfah.org/tickets and visitors are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance of their visit.

Civic Heart Community Services Relocates to One Emancipation Center

New office provides collaborative space, synergy with like-minded non-profit organizations to create a thriving Third Ward community

Civic Heart Community Services (Civic Heart) relocated its headquarters to One Emancipation Center at 3131 Emancipation Avenue in Houston’s Third Ward in June 2023. The 34-year-old organization, the largest black-founded non-profit organization in the Gulf coast region, formerly known as Change Happens!, recently announced its name change to Civic Heart Community Services.

Food and Youth Baseball Equipment Distribution

Council Member Edward Pollard has partnered with The Players Alliance, a nonprofit organization comprised of more than 150 active and former Major League Baseball Players, for a drive-up food and baseball equipment distribution event that will help improve the access of the game of baseball to young people in underserved communities. Flood Control District releases Phase 2 results of Tunnel Feasibility Study

Concept of a future tunnel system recommended for further analysis

Large-diameter underground stormwater tunnels have the potential to significantly reduce flooding risks in Harris County and warrant deeper analysis, the Harris County Flood Control District announced today with publication of its “Feasibility Study of Stormwater Conveyance Tunnels – Phase 2” report. Preliminary information regarding a potentially “transformational” system of tunnels that could reduce persistent flooding for tens of thousands of homes were included in this update of the feasibility study, which was launched after Harris County officials challenged the Flood Control District to develop new flood risk reduction tools in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Hyman, the organization is bringing together members of the Third Ward, real estate, private, public and nonprofit communities for a collaborative discussion. This discussion on the current state of housing and economic development in the area will serve as a catalyst for collaboration among local housing and development stakeholders for current and future development of affordable homes and economic standards in the area.
