Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) just launched its new teen social justice initiative called Be The Change You Want 2 See with three events last week to educate and inspire teen Club members to be catalysts for social change and racial justice in Houston and our nation. The objective of the initiative is to amplify youth voices and activism through critical and intentional conversations, artistic expression and service learning projects. The youth-led initiative uses the hashtag #bethechangeBGCGH.

TMSL Earl Carl Institute Hosts Inaugural Public Service Awards Event

The Earl Carl Institute honored four for their service to the Houston community and held the first Marcia Johnson Outstanding Public Service Award event. The inaugural winners are Natasha Malone (Student Leader), Joseph Do, executive director, Annam Community Development Corporation (Community Organization), Opal Mitchell Lee and Georgia Provost (Community Leader). Lee’s daughter, Deborah Davis, accepted the award on her mother’s behalf. UHD Prepare Teachers to Lead as Principals in New Master of Educational Leadership Program

For more than three decades, the University of Houston-Downtown’s (UHD) College of Public Service (CPS) has been training teachers with stunning results: More than 2,000 teachers trained by UHD have been placed in area school districts. In addition, UHD’s undergraduate teacher-preparation program was among just 23 percent of programs nationwide recently awarded an “A” by the National Council on Teacher Quality for teaching the science of reading.
