Houston Pension Solution Takes Historic Step Forward in Texas Legislature

After hearing testimony from Mayor Sylvester Turner and many others, the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee today voted to send the Houston Pension Solution to the full senate for approval. With one exception, the measure passed out of committee is the same reform package supported by a 16-1 vote of City Council and forwarded to Austin by the City of Houston.

Hire Houston Youth Provides 5,000 Jobs for 2017

Mayor Sylvester Turner and partners kicked off the application period for the second year of Hire Houston Youth at a breakfast at the McDonalds on Studemont at I-10. Utilizing public/private partnerships, Hire Houston Youth will provide jobs and internships to Houston youth between the ages of 16 to 24 at an hourly wage of $8. In the past, the city helped place only about 450 kids in summer jobs. This year, there will be 5,000 positions available.

Blast Off: 2017 American League West Champions Houston Astros

Houston Style Magazine Sports would like to send congratulations to our hometown Houston Astros. The 2017 American League West Champions wrapped up the division by defeating the Seattle Mariners 7-1 on this past Sunday. The Astros won the division for the first time since moving into the American League West in 2013. They had previously been in the National League since 1962. It was also the first division title for Houston since 2001.
