New Law Will Especially Benefit Low Income Working Parents After Welcoming a New Baby
A new bill in Washington D.C. was just passed that will offer welcomed benefits to low-wage workers. Many low-wage workers cannot afford to take time off to welcome a new baby. The new law has extended weeks of leave to 8 weeks for birth, adoption or fostering and also includes up to 90 percent of wages to be paid during the leave.

Acres Homes, Gulfton, Second Ward, Near Northside and Third Ward are the first neighborhoods selected for the mayor’s new Complete Communities initiative. The city will work in a concentrated manner with stakeholders in each community and partners across Houston to create more complete neighborhoods with enhanced access to quality affordable homes, jobs, well-maintained parks and greenspace, improved streets and sidewalks, grocery stores and other retail, good schools and transit options.
New degree takes root in PVAMU’s newly renamed College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
For Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Human Sciences, the fall semester brings a new degree program and a new name. The Master of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) has enrolled its first students, and starting Sept. 1, the CAHS will be officially named the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR).
