The Foundation in partnership with HISD will surprise a lucky Scarborough Elementary 3rd grade student with a home library of six new books in a special event to be held at Scarborough Elementary School in HISD.

Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis is set to host a glamorous Texas Legislative Internship Program (TLIP) Grand Slam Evening on Monday, Feb. 5, at 7:15 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston. The star-studded event will honor the achievements of two outstanding individuals – former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and ex-Houston Astros Manager Dusty Baker. Beyond being a prestigious recognition, the evening will also serve as a fundraiser for TLIP, a program that has provided over 700 students with invaluable experiences in the Texas Legislature and various other offices.

HCC Trustee Sentenced to Nearly Six Years in Prison

Former Houston Community College board member Chris Oliver will serve 70 months in federal prison, U.S. District Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore decided. Contractors allegedly paid Oliver a total of more than $250,000 influence contract awards between 2009 and 2016. Oliver plead guilty to accepting a $12,000 bribe from an HCC contractor, a bribe for which the Federal Bureau of Investigation provided funding.
