Rush Introduces Legislation to Commemorate the Memory of Mamie Till Mobley

In celebration of Juneteenth, U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) introduced the Mamie Till-Mobley Memorial Stamp Act, which directs The Postmaster General to issue a commemorative postage stamp in honor of Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmett Till. Emmett was kidnapped and lynched in 1955 and his death — as well as Mamie’s decision to show the world the horrors inflicted on her son with an open-casket funeral — was a preeminent and catalytic event in the civil rights movement.

Otis Redding Foundation Releases Musical Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Available Today

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, the Otis Redding Foundation is releasing a new song, “Show Love,” written and produced by students ages 12-18, who attended the Otis Music Camp at the height of the pandemic in 2020. The song is based on a sermon “Loving Your Enemies” which Dr. King delivered at Dexter Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL on November 17, 1957, and includes a live excerpt of the sermon. Dexter Baptist Church is a designated a historic landmark and boasts significant African American history since its opening in 1887. Much of Montgomery’s early civil rights activity, most famously the 1956 Bus Boycott, was directed by Dr. King from his office in the lower level of the church.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Baltimore Hosts Series of Events to Commemorate Frederick Douglass’ 200th Birthday

An internal photo uploaded to a product overview system named a purple hat as 'Nigga Lab Beanie,' last month at clothing company & Other Stories. Upon complaint from employees, they issued a companywide apology and the caption was never made public. The company said it is investigating how the hat was named with the racial slur. Parent company H&M group CEO Helena Helmersson says the team including the responsible managers have been suspended during the probe. The product has also been canceled.
