The City of Houston has completed the Resilient Sidewalks Plan for the communities of Gulfton and Kashmere Gardens. The City of Houston received Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery 2017 (CDBG-DR 17) funds for planning activities after Hurricane Harvey.

This is all part of the artists continuing to show love to Houston in the aftermath of the storm. A couple of weeks ago, both artists were a part of a benefit concert to raise money for Harvey relief.

Senator Miles Hosts Job Fair in Third Ward

Senator Borris L. Miles is hosting a Job Fair in communities with high unemployment rates. According to the 2011-2015 ACS, US Census Bureau, Third Ward, Greater OST/South Union, Sunnyside and South Park neighborhoods have some of the highest rates of unemployment in the City of Houston. This Job Fair will address those needs by offering good paying jobs to the residents of those communities.

Houston Astros Are 2017 World Series Champions

Astros win first World Series Championship in franchise history

With tonight’s Game 7 win over the LA Dodgers, the Houston Astros are World Series Champions for the first time in franchise history. Prior to this season, the Astros had gone 55 years without a World Series Championship and had appeared in only one other World Series (2005). The Astros defeated the LA Dodgers by a score of 5-1 tonight at Dodger Stadium.

HISD crowns their 2023 Educators of the year celebrating “A Legacy of Excellence”

The Houston Independent School District hosted their 2023 Educators of the Year at the Hilton Americas-Houston downtown with the theme “A Legacy of Excellence” for the 2022-2023 school year. HISD’s 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year, Maria Soria and Secondary Teacher of the Year, Kaylin McNary served as this year’s hosts. Attendees were welcomed to a grand banquet space with a 1920s theme and décor accompanied by a 1920s big band for entertainment.
