Taken to the Woodshed Center Christian Wood makes his Rockets season debut in blowout over the Spurs.

An old cliché that has been used for centuries is, “Taking someone to the woodshed.” It’s an expression referred to the former practice of taking a naughty or disobedient child to the woodshed to be punished. On Thursday night the Toyota Center turned into the proverbial “Woodshed” as Houston (3-1) defeated San Antonio (0-3) by a score of 128-106 behind a brilliant performance by center Christian Wood.

Port Of Houston 2020 Budget – $425 Million and 0.09% To Black Firms

Today, the Houston Port Authority released the results of a disparity study looking at the access that minority and women-owned businesses have to the Port Authority’s contracting dollars. In response, County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, who championed Harris County’s disparity study, and advocated for the Port Authority to complete a study as well, issued the following statement:

Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans Day of Service

Today, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) will host a special Day of Service in honor of legacy civic leaders Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Students and staff from AAMA’s two George I. Sanchez Charter Schools will volunteer at both Houston campuses to update on-site murals, stain a back fence, pick up trash on the property, mulch and trim bushes, among various other beautification projects. The one-day service event is intended to honor the memory and legacy of Chavez and Huerta ahead of this year’s Cesar Chavez Day on March 31, 2022 and Dolores Huerta Day on April 10, 2022. AAMA is a leading Latino-serving nonprofit organization in the city of Houston with over 50 years of service across the state of Texas.

AAMA Teams Up With DePelchin Children’s Center to Offer Free Mental Health Support for Students at its Charter Schools

This month, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) partnered with DePelchin Children’s Center to provide mental health services to students at George I. Sanchez Charter School’s two campuses in Houston. Through this new collaboration the two nonprofit organizations will make it possible for George I. Sanchez Charter School students in need of mental health support to be referred to DePelchin Children’s Center’s Families COUNT program and to receive free counseling services on campus.
