Houston and Harris County’s local census drive, “Yes! to Census 2020,” will debut its final original census mural at the historic S.H.A.P.E Community Center, 3815 Live Oak Street in Houston, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. The S.H.A.P.E. Yes! To Census 2020 mural, created by artist Israel McCloud, depicts a picture-perfect snapshot portrait of the diversity of residents in the Third Ward with the local Census 2020 campaign hashtag #YEStotheCensus.

Media Statement On COVID-19 Precautions From HISD
The Houston Independent School District has no confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, acting out of an abundance of caution, several individuals have been placed on a 14-day self-quarantine. All self-quarantine individuals recently returned from a country on the CDC travel warning list or are closely related to someone who did. Schools will be identified specifically if cases are positively confirmed.

Additionally, this project will have a dramatic impact on workforce development and, ultimately, the local economy, as the City of Houston seeks to increase the literacy skills of Houstonians by one level. The benefits of this project will extend beyond Houston since access to the bilingual e-library will be available worldwide.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH), in conjunction with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will host a national livestreamed webinar at Galveston’s Reedy Chapel AME Church on Thursday, June 16 from noon to 2 p.m. CT to celebrate the historical significance of Juneteenth, which had its origin in Galveston. Reedy Chapel was one of the locations in which General Order #3 was read on June 19, 1865, announcing the end of slavery in Texas.
