EPA Announces City of Houston to Receive $600,000 in Brownfields Assessment Funding

The grant awards help underserved communities across the country Build Back Better and address Environmental Justice concerns

Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the city of Houston, Texas, is among the 151 recipients of 154 grant awards totaling $66.5 million in Brownfields funding through its Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup (MAC) Grants.

Fifth grader wins Houston ISD’s 2023 MLK Oratory Speech Competition

Houston ISD is getting an early start to the MLK holiday. The district held its 27th annual MLK Oratory Speech Competition on Friday. Twelve fourth and fifth grade students from different elementary schools across the district presented three-to-five minute speeches. This year’s theme was “What would Dr. King say to us today about hope for tomorrow.”

The Hungry Free Summer

School bells ringing are a bigger relief for some families than just getting children out of the house. It means that their children will have two well-balanced meals a day at school. One in six children across America doesn’t know where their next meal will come from. Texas is a distant 43rd for children’s overall well-being with a devastating 25% of the children living in poverty. Houston ranks second in the nation for children living with food insecurity. Harris County has the second highest rate of child food insecurity in the nation. A hungry free summer seems unobtainable but in summer 2019 it was made possible.

The Houston Symphony celebrates the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with a semi-staged, orchestral version of “Green Eggs and Ham” at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017. First-in-human clinical trial of new targeted therapy drug reports promising responses for multiple cancers

Significant durable disease control seen in patients with lung and thyroid cancers harboring the RET oncogene

A phase I, first-in-human study led by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center reveals for the first time, an investigational drug that is effective and safe for patients with cancers caused by an alteration in the receptor tyrosine kinase known as RET. The drug appears to be promising as a potential therapy for RET-driven cancers, such as medullary and papillary thyroid, non-small cell lung, colorectal and bile duct cancers, which have been historically difficult to treat.
