The Consulate General of India in Houston, in collaboration with several supporting organizations, turned living rooms into yoga studios on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in honor of the Sixth International Day of Yoga (IDY), with a virtual event streamed live from India House and broadcast through the Consulate General of India Houston Facebook page, as well as the Facebook page of India House. This year’s event brought together families and yoga enthusiasts around the country together virtually to create a sense of community with the theme “Ghar Ghar Se Yoga - Yoga at Home” to achieve physical fitness and mental well-being.

Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic Concludes at Minute Maid Park

The 2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children® College Classic concluded tonight at Minute Maid Park with Kentucky being named the Tournament Champions with a perfect 3-0 record. The Wildcats were matched by Mississippi State, which also went 3-0, but earned the tiebreaker with a plus-21 run differential, as opposed to the Bulldogs plus-five mark. Three teams finished 1-2 in Louisiana, Sam Houston State and Vanderbilt, while Houston finished 0-3. The SEC fared well this weekend, as the three clubs posted a collective 7-2 record.

Some Habits Are Worth Keeping

For the ninth consecutive time, the Astros won their opener which ties the longest streak in the modern era joining the St. Louis Browns, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and New York Mets who have all done it since the 1900’s. Houston (1-0) defeated the reigning American League West Champions Oakland A’s (0-1) 8-1. It was the second year in a row that the Astros put eight runs on the board to start the season.

More than 3 percent of reported doctors visits in Harris County during the first week of November were related to the flu or other respiratory viral infections, compared to 1.7 percent in early October, according to the Houston Health Department.

City of Houston Files Suit Against the State of Texas' "Death Star" Super Preemption Law

Today, the City of Houston filed a lawsuit in Travis County against the State of Texas to have declared unconstitutional, void, and unenforceable House Bill 2127, the so-called "Death Star" or "Super" preemption bill. Governor Greg Abbott signed Texas House Bill 2127 on June 14, 2023, with an effective date of September 1, 2023.
