Our Money Matters (OMM) is set to present its inaugural Funny Money College Tour (F$CT), a HBCU/MSI “edutainment” experience, with a diverse mix of comedians and financial wellness influencers on Thursday December 2, 2021, 6pm-8pm CT, at University of Houston, Student Center South Theater, 4455 University Drive, TX, 77204. OMM is a comprehensive financial wellness initiative created by The Historically Black Colleges & Universities Community Development Action Coalition (HBCU CDAC), launching at campuses of color all over the country.

The Alliance was recently awarded $750,000 of grant funding from the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence (MOHTDV) to design, execute, and administer an evidence-based, preventive, domestic violence intervention program. The MOHTDV’s goal is to provide funding for projects that are innovative, culturally competent, and focused on intervening in communities of color and ethnic minorities when it comes to preventing domestic violence.

On behalf of the White family, the Office of Governor Greg Abbott today released funeral and memorial service details for former Governor Mark White. Funeral services will take place in Houston, TX at Second Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m. On Thursday, August 10th, Governor White will be driven to Austin, TX where he will lay in state in the Capitol rotunda from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., after which he will be driven to the Texas State Cemetery to be laid to rest in a private ceremony for family.

Summer is a time of increased food demand, as kids who receive free or reduced meals at school during the school year no longer have access to those meals. For this reason, Houston Food Bank has a Summer Feeding Program, and in order to feed more hungry children has opened additional feeding sites across the city where kids can get hot nutritious meals during the summer.

While our school campuses are closed, KIPP Texas is doing everything possible to ensure individuals 19 years old and under will continue to receive the breakfast and lunch they would otherwise receive had they been at school. Almost 90 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

The event, featuring Broadway star Audra McDonald, was scheduled for Saturday, March 28. The annual gala is a core fundraising event for the non-profit musical theatre company.
