Houston, TX, April 4, 2017- On Wednesday, April 5 from 9:45 am to 10:45 am, Healing Family Inc., will host Safe Kids R-US, an anti-bullying workshop for teen and elementary girls at Foster Elementary (3919 Ward St, Houston, TX 77021). Middle School students from the Lawson Academy will work alongside girls at Foster to empower, inspire and help them develop social skills for future success. The program will include interactive educational activities aimed towards helping students gain a better understanding of the potential long-term implications of bullying, in addition to the value in being a positive influence in the lives of girls.

According to The National Bullying Prevention Center, more than half of bullying situations (57%) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. For this reason, the students vow to commit to end in-school harassment by taking a Bully Prevention Pledge.

The pledge states that, “I make a commitment to take a stand against bullying. I will treat others with respect and kindness. I will have the compassion to not be a bully and the courage to be a bystander. It is my responsibility to help others being bullied and to report bullying.”

The workshop will kick-off with an ice breaker, followed by an introduction and overview of the the nonprofit IamBullyFree.org. Staff from the Lawson Academy will then present a mural that displays words from the Bully Prevention Pledge to Foster Elementary. The program will conclude with the presentation of certificates, recognizing the commitment that all 100 students have made to leadership and bully prevention.
