Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement about the President’s signing of the Russia Sanctions Bill after an inexplicable several day delay:
“After prolonged silence and several days of delay, the President finally signed the Russia Sanctions Bill which garnered near unanimous support in Congress. Before using his pen, the Mr. Trump called the bill seriously flawed while launching a barrage of criticisms at lawmakers; a move that calls into question the President’s judgment and motives.
“For all the Trump’s tough talk, he has continued to demonstrate an unwillingness to stand up to Russia’s Putin, who has ordered the U.S. to cut more than 700 American embassy workers. Putin showed no hesitation in taking reckless, irreversible, illegal and contemptuous actions to undermine America's electoral process and yet the President has remained larger mute on the subject.
"Rather than advancing and defending America's interests, Mr. Trump seems more concerned with not upsetting Moscow. It is now time that he start acting like a Commander in Chief deserving of the keys to the White House and a seat in the Oval Office. He was elected to serve the American people, not the Kremlin."
