Texas lawmakers are looking at new legislation that will prohibit state cities from partnering with private health organizations like Planned Parenthood and other affiliates of abortion providers. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner thinks passage of this legislation would cause a health crisis in Houston by affecting the way the city responds to such outbreaks as Zika, HIV or STDs. He noted Houston’s past successes in fighting such outbreaks because of the city’s available resources. Passage of the legislation would limit the number of partners to fight viruses and limit the city’s ability to address the health care needs of citizens.
