(Pasadena), Texas – North Pasadena Community Outreach (NPCO) receives a $100,000 grant from the Episcopal Health Foundation to pilot a benefits enrollment and health navigation service program for low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents in its community effective July 31, 2017.
NPCO is a nonprofit organization and the community outreach arm of San Pedro/St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. In addition to the health navigation service, the grant will also support follow-up to document utilization of services.
Known for its notable history of community service, NPCO serves a population of immigrant children and adults in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Pasadena. This pilot program will add another milestone to NPCOs existing portfolio of services allowing it to provide assistance to non-English speaking residents eligible to apply for health benefits.
“With this grant, we can help people access health care coverage through programs like CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Plan); Medicare and Medicaid, said Father Pedro Lopez, St. Peter’s vicar. “We will also be able to assist with connecting individuals to professional medical services and resources within the community.”
Within the pilot, NPCO, will employ navigators to work onsite at the outreach center where individuals will receive assistance.
NPCO is accepting donations to fund any of its program initiatives to enrich the lives of economically disadvantaged children and adults. Donations can be designated to support programs like the ESL (English as a Second Language) class, GED classes, computer literacy classes, afterschool program and the launching of its upcoming Early Head Start program.
