FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – August 10, 2017 – Brightwood College in Friendswood is pleased to announce the launch of its new Medical Office Specialist program beginning Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 at its campus located at 3208 Farm to Market Road 528. The Medical Office Specialist training is designed to prepare students for administrative support roles in healthcare settings. The program, through its unique curriculum, equips students with administrative training and business-related skills rather than clinical expertise, allowing students to develop the skills specific to the needs of local healthcare providers.

“We are pleased to add this new Medical Office Specialist program to our diploma and certificate offerings, with an active teaching style that will help our students gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of medical office administration,” says Campus President Justin Pond. “The need for healthcare administration is great, but the healthcare industry is competitive. That means you may need additional education, and training to help you stand out – and our program can help.”

During the nine-month program, students will receive an in-depth education in medical office administration, written and spoken communication, office administration, medical transcription and medical office operations. In addition to courses in management, communications, and computer applications, students will receive training in health care administration, insurance theory, claims management and legal aspects of health care, including HIPAA, OSHA, and cultural diversity. The program training also covers medical emergencies, such as preparation for CPR certification. Furthermore, the curriculum includes a practicum where students gain and benefit from real-world experience through an externship.

Students completing the Medical Office Specialist program may seek positions in many different administrative support jobs in the medical field. As a graduate from the Medical Office Specialist program, students will be able to pursue positions such as medical office assistant, hospital or physician’s office receptionist, medical transcriptionist, insurance collection specialist, medical billing clerk or medical office bookkeeper.
