Labor Day Classic Moves To Thanksgiving Weekend; Athletics Events Postponed This Week

Labor Day Classic XXXIII will be rescheduled for Thanksgiving Weekend, and Prairie View A&M University has postponed all home athletic events this week.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey," said Prairie View A&M Vice President and Director Athletics Ashley Robinson. "This has been a devastating event for Houston and southeast Texas, which has touched all of us in various ways. Our concern at this time is for the safety and wellbeing of our student-athletes and University community, the greater Houston area and the State of Texas."
Saturday's football matchup between Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern will be rescheduled for BBVA Compass Stadium on Thanksgiving Weekend, with a date and time to be announced. The matchup was last played on Thanksgiving Weekend in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. Panther football is now scheduled to open the 2017 season Thursday, Sept. 7 hosting Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. at Panther Stadium in a live nationally televised game on ESPNU.
Prairie View A&M volleyball was scheduled to host Houston Baptist Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers, who did not play this past weekend in the North Texas Tournament due to Harvey, are scheduled to open the 2017 season next Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.
The Lady Panther soccer team was scheduled to host Abilene Christian Friday night and Texas A&M Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon on the PVAMU Campus. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to resume their schedule Friday, Sept. 8 at Texas State at 7 p.m.
The Prairie View A&M women's and men's cross country teams will not compete Friday at Houston Baptist. The PVAMU teams are scheduled to open its seasons Friday, Sept. 8 at Rice.
Also, the Prairie View A&M Athletics Labor Day Classic Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday at Cypress Lakes Golf Course, is also postponed.
