Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement about the President’s unjustified assault on the men and women of the FBI:

“Every day, the brave men and women of the FBI place their lives on the line to enforce the criminal laws that secure this nation. Every day, agents sacrifice time with family and loved ones to live up to their sworn oath to safeguard our democracy.

“As a Senior Member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security, I have a deep and abiding appreciation for the indispensable role ascribed to America’ top law enforcement agency, which undergirds the salient principal that no one is beyond accountability. That is what makes the President’s unbridled assault on the FBI outrageous and deeply troubling.

“Trump’s tweet calling the FBI’s ‘reputation in tatters’ is a grossly misguided and wrong-headed attempt to demean the integrity of the agents who serve. It is also grossly untrue and unbecoming of a Commander in Chief, who seems hell-bent on distracting the American people from the very legitimate suspicions surrounding Russia’s collusion with Trump campaign officials and the President’s obstruction of justice.

“No, Mister President, the FBI’s reputation is not in ‘tatters.’ Yours is.”
