Drivers had to maneuver a new way to work after an 18-wheeler hit the bridge causing damage that knocked down a steel beam. This caused a ripple effect of others drivers hitting the hanging beam causing damage to their cabs.

The freeway had to be shut down for repairs and bridge evaluations by the Houston Police Department and TxDOT. Since then two lanes have now been reopened on I-10 at Houston Avenue.

"Right now, we've got two lanes closed. TxDOT has crews en route to cut the piece of steel off and check the structural integrity of the bridge," HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said. "We are hoping to have the freeway totally open for rush hour. However, that depends on how much damage we have to the freeway."
