All it takes is an idea, and the tenacity to see it through.
When I spoke with Nicole Coleman a few weeks ago she was busy preparing for SuperBOLD; an empowerment brunch that she hoped would bring like-minded women together. It was an idea that sprang from an unlikely source, coming to her as she lay recovering in a Houston hospital from an unexpected illness.
Personable and energetic, during our first chat the mother and entrepreneur revealed she had come up with the idea while in the ER as she wondered “What if I’m not around? What will my children know about me? Would they know my drive?’ I just kept hearing “Be Bold.” From there I just got hungrier. A lot has happened in a short amount of time considering I sent my first email a few months ago. I gave myself a short window. Once I put it out there, I just had to keep it moving. That’s what it really means to be bold.”
For Coleman, that meant transforming an idea into reality, as she worked to honor a group of women that had excelled at creating their own lanes. In addition to honorees Samantha Selolwane, 93.7 personality Devi Dev, educator Damita Jones and attorney Demetra Liggins; Coleman also secured popular editor and Fashion Bomb Daily founder Claire Sulmers as the keynote speaker for the afternoon.
A few weeks after we spoke I was able to witness that dream come to fruition, as the city flooded into Houston’s famed St. Regis Hotel on February 3rd for Coleman’s inaugural “SuperBOLD Women’s Empowerment Brunch.” Designed to celebrate women with a motivation to succeed, the afternoon offered big laughs and even a few joyful tears.
In a city that hosts events daily it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle, yet Coleman handled her own with ease; setting hers apart by offering real encouragement and using her own experiences as a living testimony of what one is capable of when talent and faith collide.
Taking great care with details, guests were given creative goodie bags that included vision boards, quality hair care products and more. If the first edition of SuperBOLD is any indicator, this event is here to stay.
