The workforce at M.D. Anderson in the medical center is to about to cut by 5% with impending layoffs of hundreds of workers.

Employees started to receive word today if they would be let go. MD Anderson has said that "compassion" went into "exploring all options to make sustainable changes" to keep employees. However, this type of impact could not be avoided.

Fired employees will receive severance packages, resume help, and social services if needed.

The hospital is expecting to save $120 million per year with the cuts.
