Mayor Sylvester Turner, the City of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD); the Houston Parks and Recreation Department; Reliant, an NRG Company, and Living Earth will participate in a press conference to commemorate the cutting down and mulching of the City of Houston Holiday Tree.

Natural holiday trees can and should be recycled instead of being tossed into the landfill, costing taxpayers’ landfill space and disposal costs. Holiday trees collected by the City of Houston will be given a second life by being ground into mulch that is available in bulk directly from Living Earth or available in bags as Living Earth Houston Mulch at Houston area retailers. Trees can be dropped off at one of twenty four (24) free drop-off locations until January 20, 2017, or residents with City of Houston collection can place their trees curbside for recycling during Tree Waste day. Recycled holiday trees must have tinsel, ornaments, lights and stands removed. Flocked trees cannot be recycled.
