East End Houston - Tourists and Houston residents will have an opportunity to experience the unique flavor of the East End, Houston’s birthplace, during Super Bowl LI. The completion of the METRORail Green Line along Harrisburg Boulevard will allow history, photography, and foodie enthusiasts ample opportunity to indulge in what the East End has to offer.
METRO will be running around the clock with wait times of seven to 14 minutes making travel fast and inexpensive as rides will only cost two dollars. This transportation option will connect the entire city helping visitors avoid the congestion, limited vehicle parking, and cost of renting cars that will also be in short supply. Anticipating the large influx of visitors and help in navigating the routes, METRO created an app that simplifies the riding process.
The Cesar Chavez stop provides an experience of a bygone era, a classic small-town feel with restaurants, shopping and entertainment. A hop off at Coffee Plant (Second Ward) puts one within a quick ten-minute walk to the Navigation Esplanade to experience some of the City’s award-winning Mexican food and a special "Navigation Tailgate and Super Market Days” event taking place Thursday, Feb 2 through Sunday, February 5. On those days, visitors will enjoy a variety of music that will include Bad House, Swallow This, Guerreros de la Musica and Electric Love Temple. On Sunday, the big game will be featured with big screens and crystal clear sound.
Owners of El Tiempo Cantina on the Navigation Esplanade and all their locations are creating a special offering during the big game; a tasty Prime Rib Super Bowl packages at Laurenzo’s and Fajita Party Packs at the El Tiempo’s to facilitate families hosting Super Bowl functions or parties at home with friends.
Other businesses such as the new Sigma Brewing Company strategically located along Harrisburg Boulevard will soon begin offering Saturday tours, opening up the brewery area so that patrons can see how they produce their craft beer. Matt Peterson, Co-founder says, “Beer lovers can come enjoy four beers for $10 and get a free taster glass. We have picnic tables set up inside the actual brewery, so folks can hang out and enjoy the weather and our space.”
Visitors that want to drive to take in the iconic and historic sites can also hunt for the artistic street murals that rival the well publicized art of Miami. Art lovers can shop for original works at art galleries and the Navigation Esplanade.
